The ODIN Project was pleased to participate in the Wastewater and Environmental Surveillance (WES) Meeting 2026 held in Accra, Ghana, with three attendees representing the project.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to showcase ODIN’s contribution to strengthening public health through wastewater and environmental surveillance in sub-Saharan Africa. The team presented three posters highlighting how environmental surveillance, genomics, and local capacity building can support epidemic preparedness; how wastewater and environmental surveillance can strengthen early pathogen detection and AMR monitoring; and how ODIN is implementing a practical, harmonized, and sustainable surveillance system for public health action across the region.
The team also participated in the Wastewater Environmental Surveillance Costing Workshop, which provided valuable insights into the use of the WES Costing Tool for strategic planning, laboratory and network design, and investment decisions.
Overall, the conference was a valuable platform for sharing experiences, strengthening collaboration, and highlighting the growing impact of ODIN in advancing One Health and public health surveillance in Africa.
