A two-day workshop was held on July 25-26, 2024, in Koudougou, Burkina Faso, to discuss critical issues surrounding water and sanitation safety in the country. Organized by the Clinical Research Unit of Nanoro (CRUN) and the ODIN project, the workshop focused on improving access to water and sanitation data, planning for water sample collection, and the implementation of Water Safety Plans (WSP) and Sanitation Safety Plans (SSP) in Burkina Faso.

The event featured key presentations by Dr. Marc Christian Tahita, who introduced the objectives and work packages of the ODIN project, and Dr.PalpouguiniLompo, who outlined the selected water sampling sites in Ouagadougou and Nanoro. Discussions also highlighted the availability of metadata from previous water surveillance efforts, with stakeholders from various health, sanitation, and water management institutions engaging in constructive dialogue.

Day 2 of the workshop concentrated on the development of WSP and SSP strategies. Presentations by representatives from Burkina Faso's Ministry of Health and sanitation authorities emphasized the need for improved water quality surveillance and the enforcement of sanitation safety protocols.

The workshop concluded with plans for a pilot water sample collection phase and a collaborative strategy involving various national institutions. Participants called for better coordination and communication, including a project dashboard and a WhatsApp group, to ensure smooth progress moving forward.
