The ODIN-Mpox project's scientific coordinator participated in the Africa CDC's Consultative Meeting on Molecular-Based Wastewater & Environmental Surveillance for Mpox, held in Nairobi, Kenya from March 13–15, 2025. The meeting addressed strategies for strengthening Mpox surveillance, improving outbreak response, and facilitating knowledge-sharing across the African continent.
Coordinated by Vivi Maketa (Professor of Tropical Medicine, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, University of Kinshasa, DRC), the ODIN-Mpox project is dedicated to strengthening environmental surveillance to enhance public health responses in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Africa CDC conference underscored the importance of this work, highlighting the significant contributions in the DRC, Tanzania, and Burkina Faso. It also emphasized the benefits of partnerships within African Mpox projects. ODIN-Mpox works in close collaboration with the initial ODIN wastewater surveillance project, sharing a common vision and benefiting from joint expertise (and same consortium).
